Tropical low moves across Queensland

Rain and thunderstorms are on the cards this weekend as a slow moving tropical low makes its way over the south-east.

We could see around 50mm of rain fall across the Sunshine Coast between today and Monday.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Patch Clapp says we’ll avoid the brunt of the system, but isolated thunderstorms are still likely.

“Rockhampton to Bundaberg and pushing even down into the Sunshine Coast could see that sort of thunderstorm activity across Friday as well,” he says.

“Then we do start to see it shift further south again through the weekend, but there remains that chance of shower activity across all of the Queensland coast.

“At this stage, we’re still expecting the focus to sit just that little bit more inland where we’ll see the heaviest falls that could be pushing up in the 50-100mm range.”

Mr Clapp adds the weather system won’t do much to bring down the heat.

“Not seeing a whole lot of change for coastal conditions. That humidity as well keeping the feels-like temperature fairly elevated as well and not seeing a big drop.”
