The Sunshine Coast is among the regions worst hit by wild weather during winter.
That’s according to NRMA insurance data, which has found 8.05 per cent of all Queensland claims came from the Sunshine Coast area.
The Gold Coast was hardest hit, accounting for one in eight wild weather claims during the cooler months, followed by the Sunshine Coast, Wide Bay, Logan-Beaudesert and Ipswich.
Rockhampton City recorded the greatest number of severe weather home and motor claims of any town or suburb, with Caboolture, Toowoomba City, Nerang and Bundaberg North rounding out the top five.
Executive manager for natural perils Mark Leplastrier says there were 2,522 claims for wild weather damage across Queensland across June, July, August.
“This was the worst winter for wild weather damage in Queensland since 2016.
“A lot of damage was to vehicles with data showing almost one in three motor claims were related to wild weather.”
Mr Leplastrier is urging everyone to prepare for the upcoming season, with another La Nina weather event officially declared earlier this week.
Queenslanders continue to lead the way in preparedness compared to the rest of the country, with 46 per cent preparing for wild weather in the past three months compared to 37 per cent nationally.
The insurer says Queenslanders are also more likely to have an emergency plan and emergency kit in place and to know their neighbours well enough to assist them or be assisted in an emergency.
