A man in his 70s has been winched to safety after falling around 10 metres down a cliff in the Gympie region on Saturday.
The Sunshine-Coast based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew winched down a Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedic to treat the man for multiple injuries.
The paramedic stabilised the patient on the face of the cliff and secured him into a patient harness.
The man was then winched safely into the helicopter.
It is believed the experienced hiker had been abseiling with a group of friends when he fell down the steep incline causing suspected head, chest and leg injuries.
He was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.
