Two Sunshine Coast kids have had a chance to visit a retired police dog.

Lucy and Andrew, from Bokarina, sent a letter to Maroochydore Police Station late last year, thanking police for looking after the community.

It was one of a wave of messages and gestures of support people made to our local officers, following the tragic deaths of Constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold in the Western Downs late last year.

After reading the handwritten card from the children, the police invited Lucy and Andrew to meet former Police Dog Anzac and his handler, Sergeant Hicks, yesterday.

Anzac is a retired Drug Detection dog, and the good boy received plenty of pats from the kids.

Sunshine Coast district officer Craig Hawkins and acting officer in charge of the Sunshine Coast Dog Squad Martin Wilson also met with the children.

Superintendent Hawkins has thanked them and their parents for their kind words and support.

He’s also thanked the local community for its continued support on behalf of all the officers on the Sunshine Coast.

“For the community to acknowledge the work that we do is tremendous and we want to say thank you,” says Superintendent Hawkins.
