Alleged armed man charged over Bruce Highway chase

Police have charged a 39 year-old Mountain Creek man with numerous offences after a wild chase along the Bruce Highway on the Sunshine Coast.

Officers were initially called to Mountain Creek home around 11.35am yesterday, to reports of a domestic violence related incident.

Police say a man involved in the initial incident then got into a car and took off, allegedly armed with a firearm.

He was allegedly involved in several dangerous driving incidents on his way north, including allegedly holding up a semi-trailer and using it to try and block the highway.

The incident brought traffic to a standstill on the Bruce Highway for some time around 12.30pm. It cleared around an hour later.

An estimated 30 police cars and the police helicopter tracked his journey.

He was eventually pulled over and arrested at Doonan.

Police say they recovered one firearm from the vehicle.

The man has been charged with five counts of serious assault police, three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, and one count each of unlicensed driving, going armed so as to cause fear, possess unauthorised medicine, armed robbery, unlawful entry of a vehicle, unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today, February 15.

Anyone with information that may assist in ongoing investigations, including dashcam footage, is urged to contact police.
