16 year-old boy charged over extensive alleged crime spree

A 16-year-old boy has been charged following a robbery with personal violence at a shopping centre in Gympie.

At approximately 8.30pm on July 16, it is alleged the Gympie boy smashed a window to a chemist on Mary Street to gain entry.

It is further alleged he stole medication which he attempted to sell to members of the public.

Around 12am on July 20, it’s alleged the boy graffitied the external wall of a dental surgery on Exhibition Road in Southside.

At 5.45pm and 5.59pm on August 16, police allege the boy entered a store in a shopping centre in Nash Street and jumped the counter in an attempt to steal vape pens.

At approximately 9am on August 21, it’s alleged he went to the same store and jumped the service counter.

It’s alleged he was involved in a physical altercation with the employee before he stole a box of vape pens and fled.

Police apprehended and arrested him a short time later, where it is alleged he was in possession of a large carving knife.

It is further alleged that while in police custody, the 16-year-old boy assaulted officers which resulted in one of them receiving broken ribs.

He has been charged with robbery with personal violence, four counts of enter premises, two counts of possess knife in public and one count each of obstruct police serious assault, wilful damage and wilful damage by graffiti.

He is set to appear in the Gympie Childrens’ Court.
