For those not in the know, the Magic Eraser is a cleaning sponge made from melamine foam, renowned for its ability to erase grime and scuff marks from walls and floors. But according to the Mr Clean website, this versatile sponge isn’t limited to household surfaces, it also doubles as a sneaker cleaner.

At Bunnings, you can snag a large Mr Clean Eraser Pad Block for just $4.98, or opt for a pack of four Mr Clean Melamine Eraser Cleaning Pads for $7.49.

In her video, Caroline walks through the simple steps for refreshing dirty white sneakers which include, dampening the sponge under water, ensuring it’s moist but not soaking wet. Then, gently scrub both the sneaker’s surface and the rubber sole using the sponge.

She does caution viewers to perform a patch test first, as the sponge can be abrasive on some materials.

Fans were quick to praise the hack in the comments, although some pointed out the sponge’s wear and tear after the cleaning process. Caroline also admitted the Magic Eraser was shredded during the job but assured viewers it was “well worth it” for the results.

The Mr Clean Eraser Pad Block has a near-perfect 4.9-star rating on Bunnings’ website, with glowing reviews highlighting its effectiveness on scuffs and marks around the house. Surprisingly, none of the reviews mention its hidden talent for rejuvenating dirty sneakers…
