A woman has been airlifted to hospital after falling at least seven metres down a cliff in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

It’s believed the woman in her 40s had been walking with a friend near Mapleton Falls around 11am yesterday, when she slipped and plunged several metres, before landing on a ledge.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter crew was called to assist, as part of the multi-agency effort to rescue the walker.

Due to the difficult terrain, a critical care doctor and QAS flight paramedic were winched down to the patient.

Local QAS paramedics and Queensland Fire and Emergency personnel were also on the ground, assisting the injured walker.

At the scene, the medical team treated her for head and spinal injuries before she was secured into a stretcher and carried through bushland to a nearby clearing.
