Two people have been airlifted to hospital, following a crash on Bruce Highway north of Gympie.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue chopper was called to the scene of a four-vehicle crash at Gunalda around 5.30pm on Friday, involving three cars and a truck.

The collision caused one of the cars to run off the road and down an embankment, trapping a man in his 20s inside the wreckage.

He was freed by firefighters, before being assessed by paramedics for head, chest and multiple limb injuries.

He has since been airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

A second man in his 20s was also flown to the RBWH with serious injuries, while a woman in her 30s was taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition with back pain.

The crash comes just 24 hours after another collision on the Bruce Highway, further north at Bauple, claimed the life of a man in his 70s.
