Six teenagers charged over alleged attack

Police have charged six teenage boys over an alleged assault of the owner of a Sunshine Coast IGA store.

Shane Kensett was allegedly kicked and punched by the group of teenagers on the footpath outside his Dicky Beach store on Beerburrum Street around 8pm last Saturday.

He received a broken nose, and cuts to his lips and head as well as swelling and bruising to his head and neck.

Mr Kensett alleges the attack happened after he caught a boy allegedly stealing from his shop.

He said staff locked themselves inside the store and while they weren’t physically hurt they are emotionally traumatised.

A 16-year-old Glasshouse Mountains boy has been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim and assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court on 27 August.

A 15-year-old Battery Hill boy has been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim, assault occasioning bodily harm in company, receiving tainted property, and wilful damage of police property.

He was due in Maroochydore Children’s Court yesterday.

A 16-year-old Golden Beach boy has been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim, assault occasioning bodily harm and stealing.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court on 27 August.

A 16-year-old Caloundra West boy has been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim, assault occasioning bodily harm in company, stealing and trespass.

He was due to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court yesterday.

A 17-year-old Burpengary boy has been charged with one count each of acts intended to maim, assault occasioning bodily harm in company and possessing dangerous drugs.

He is due to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court on 27 August.

A 14-year-old Little Mountain boy has been charged with two counts of stealing and one count each of acts intended to maim, assault occasioning bodily harm in company and trespass.

He was also due to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court yesterday.

Two more alleged offenders are also expected to be charged by police.
