Police cars rammed following serious assault, Pie Creek

A 44-year-old man has been charged over an alleged serious assault in the Gympie region.

Police say a 63-year-old man was attacked at a Daniel Drive property at Pie Creek around 8.45 yesterday morning, by a man armed with a knife who is known to him.

The older man was able to get to his ute and drive off, but when he pulled over on Eel Creek Road to call for help, the 44-year-old allegedly rammed his car into the back of the vehicle.

He then switched vehicles and left the scene in the ute.

The 63-year-old was taken to Gympie Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At around 9.45am, police attended the Daniel Drive address where they say the 44-year-old struck two police vehicles with the ute as he left the scene.

Police later located the vehicle abandoned at Cooroy, before arresting the man at a nearby address at approximately 12.45pm.

A 44-year-old Pie Creek man has been charged with 13 offences, including one count of serious assault of a person over 60 – as a domestic violence-related offence.

He is expected to appear before Gympie Magistrates Court today.
