Man charged over incident that led to school lock down

A 36-year-old man has been charged with drug offences after Sunshine Coast police intercepted a vehicle in Yandina yesterday.

Police were called at approximately 10.30am, after reports of a car allegedly driving dangerously on the Bruce Highway, near Ninderry Road, Yandina.

Police intercepted the vehicle, however the man fled on foot.

After conducting searches of the Yandina area, one man was arrested in bushland after 1.40pm.

The incident forced Yandina State School to lock down for around an hour-and-a-half while police searched the area before it was lifted around midday.

The man has since been charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs schedule 1 drug quantity of or exceeding schedule 3 but less than schedule 4, possessing dangerous drugs, possession of property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under Drugs Misuse Act, possessing anything for use in the commission of crime, possess utensils or pipes etc that had been used, possession of a knife in a public place or school and obstruct police officer.

The man is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on March 7.

Anyone with information that may assist in ongoing investigations, including dashcam footage, is urged to contact police.
