The man in his 20s had fallen up to 20 metres and injured his ankle…..he called triple zero but rescue crews couldn’t get him off the mountain that night.

Firefighters used drones to pinpoint the location of the man and scaled the mountain before lowering themselves down a vertical cliff face to reach him in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Drones were used to provide additional supplies overnight and four firefighters stayed with him and provided him with first aid, food and water.

He was winched to safety by the Lifeflight chopper around 9.30 on Sunday morning.
