I don’t what it is I just watched but none of them were floating…

Stephen King’s IT prequel has finally arrived and yep, I’m going to need a new change of clothes. If you’re a fan of horror and worried that a long form format of this story might slow things down and feel like a drag between the scares? Then you really don’t need to worry, this show dives straight in almost immediately with the messed up scares that the IT franchise has been known for. Before the opening title sequence even appeared on our screens I had to put down my spaghetti bolognaise and look away.

The first episode, much like its film counter part, focuses on a team of children looking for their lost friend (who many presume is dead). The young cast are all exceptional in the screen time they receive in this first episode, but Clara Stack who plays the young tortured soul Lilly is the stand out star in the kids cast. But it’s not all just kids, the episode spends a large amount of time introducing us to Major Leroy Hanlon, a new arrival to the Derry Air Force Base amidst growing tensions with Russia and fears of World War 3.

As of right now the connection between Major Hanlon and the kids is unclear, and by the time the credits roll I’m left confused as to who are lead characters really are in the show. Whilst I say that, I mean that in a really good way which I can’t explain if you haven’t seen it. By the time the credits rolled my jaw was on the floor and I needed a solid 3-episodes of Bluey before I go to bed.

By the end of the first episode I’m impressed with the pacing and tone the show is taking and look forward to seeing what happens in the coming weeks. The young cast as well are all fantastic and deserve to be praised. However, as of right now I have no earthly idea where the show is going and that’s both good and bad, I don’t have the usual urge to tune in next week to figure out what happens next as I have no ideas as to what might happen, but this episode ended in such a memorable way which caused this feeling that I eagerly want to see what other twists the show will pull off. The episode does well to offer some good moments of horror off the bat, but personally I didn’t feel so much scared by any of these moments and more so deeply disgusted (one moment in the opening scene in particular will stay with me for a while). Overall, The Pilot is a great first entry in a series by the legendary horror writer and I’m excited that the next episode is releasing early on Halloween.
