Man accused of NSW police assault, damage

A man who allegedly smashed a supermarket delivery truck window with a golf club and kicked a female police officer in the mouth has been granted bail in Newcastle.

Police allege a grocery delivery driver had parked on Mounter Street in Mayfield about 12.45pm on Friday when the 33-year-old man approached his truck and smashed a passenger window.

Local officers arrested the man and were placing him into a police vehicle when he allegedly kicked a female senior constable in the mouth. She suffered a laceration but has since been released from hospital.

The alleged offender appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Saturday charged with destroy or damage property, use offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence, affray, and assault police officer in execution of duty occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was granted conditional bail and is due before the same court on August 23.
