Man in custody over brutal assault in Tas

A man is in custody after a brutal assault left another Tasmanian man in intensive care and needing facial reconstructive surgery.

The 48-year-old Prospect victim was found with serious head injuries at an intersection in Launceston at 1.30am on Wednesday, leading police to arrest a 23-year-old Waverley man on Friday.

"Extensive enquiries and further investigations are currently being conducted and a unit in Allwinton Court, Waverley, has been declared a crime scene," Detective Inspector Philippa Burk said on Friday.
