NSW man charged over unit block stand-off
A man has been charged with a raft of offences after he held NSW police off in a stand-off in a Newcastle suburb.
Police were called to a unit building in Mayfield West about 12.45am on Friday on reports of a man climbing on the roof of the single-storey building and throwing tiles at vehicles below.
He held police off for several hours before finally descending from the roof about 9.40am. He was taken to hospital for assessment before being charged upon his release.
The man was charged with using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, four counts of malicious damage, wilful and obscene exposure, intimidation, resisting arrest, and breaching bail. He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday.
