Convicted killer wants prison leave

court gaval

One of Queensland's most notorious convicted killers is attempting to be classified as a low security prisoner.

Derek Sam murdered Sunshine Coast schoolgirl Jessica Gaudie 18 years ago and hid her body.

He's also suspected of at least two other murders in Queensland.

News Corp reports Sam, who is currently housed in the Lotus Glen correctional facility in the Far North, wants to be able to attend medical appointments and family matters outside of prison without wearing restraints.

A low security classification would also be a step towards Sam applying for parole.
