A Sunshine Coast dad is safely on home soil after a traffic accident in Bali left him fighting for his life in hospital.

Last week, Steve Bailey underwent brain and lung surgery in the island's capital, Denpasar, after he crashed his vehicle into a car that was parked dangerously on the crest of a hill.

The father of two has been in an induced coma since the surgery, and was flown to Australia this morning for further treatment.

Steve is now in the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, where his family are by his side waiting for him to wake up.

It's understood doctors are happy with his progess.

A GoFundMe page was set up to fund Steve's $130,000 flight home after his travel insurance company refused to pay the claim due to a technicality.
