Mary Valley Rattler carriages destroyed in blaze
Two carriages of the Mary Valley Rattler have gone up in flames.
Fire crews raced to the historic steam train's railyards off Tozer Street in Gympie, at around 5.15pm on Wednesday,
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesperson says they arrived to find one disused passenger car well involved, with the blaze spreading to nearby grass.
Four fire and rescue pumpers as well as other emergency vehicles were on scene.
They had the flames out by 5.50pm.
A post on the Mary Valley Rattler Facebook page has thanked members of the Gympie community, who saw the flames and quickly alerted emergency services.
"Once onsite they, with the assistance of Mary Valley Rattler staff and volunteers, were able to contain the blaze," the post says.
It confirmed the currently operating fleet wasn't damaged, which means all services will continue operating as scheduled.
