Insurance experts meet with flood-affected residents in Gympie
Gympie residents feeling overwhelmed following the relentless rain earlier this year and on-going battles with their insurance providers, can today get some advice from the experts.
The Insurance Council of Australia is launching its Queensland community roadshow in Gympie this evening.
The in-person forums will allow insurance customers impacted by the February and March flood events to get first-hand information on the claims and complaints process.
Matthew Jones from the ICA says it was the largest flood the country has seen, and the fourth-largest natural disaster in terms of the cost to insurers, with a total damage bill of about $4.35 billion across Queensland and New South Wales.
"In south-east Queensland we've had claims to the value of just over $2 billion out of about 108 thousand claims so it's a very significant event that we're still cleaning up from."
The community roadshow will visit a number of impacted regions over the coming two weeks, including Maryborough, Ipswich and Caboolture.
It follows two-weeks spent with policyholders in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales.
"We're doing this to get those impacted community members up-to-speed with the claims process is going, what they should expect out of the claims process, and provide them with an opportunity to ask us about how that all operates," Mr Jones says.
"People want to know what they should expect out of the claims process, how long it will take, when their insurer is obliged to get back to them, what to do about mould."
