Noosa Mayor's plea: help put presents under tree for those doing it tough this Xmas
You can help bring a smile to kids faces, and families doing it tough across Noosa this festive season.
Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart has launched this year's Mayoral Christmas Appeal.
She's calling for locals to dig deep and donate vouchers, gift cards and presents for children of all ages, to help local charities put food on tables, presents under the tree, and spread some holiday cheer.
"On the back of COVID-19 and with the current housing crisis, it has been a very challenging year for so many in our community," Cr Stewart says.
"By donating to this year's appeal, you'll be helping our local charities reach more people in need this festive season."
Susan Beaton from Youturn Youth Support says it has been a rough year for many.
"We've seen a rise in need across the board," she says.
"All our programs are at capacity and then beyond capacity, we have a long waiting list."
"For young people in particular, young families, it's been a real struggle."
Ms Beaton suggests buying a voucher of gift certicate from a local business.
"Perhaps also think about supporting local businesses, our local industries and trades that have also done it tough, but can offer a family a really good experience, to come together, a day out, a meal together, so it can be a win-win for the family and the business."
