COVID-positive crew member airlifted to Sunshine Coast
A crew member diagnosed with COVID-19 on board a bulk carrier off the Queensland Coast, has been flown to the Sunshine Coast after taking a turn for the worse.
Maritime Safety Queensland has confirmed the patient was airlifted to hospital on the mainland on Friday, after their condition deteriorated.
All up, there have been eight cases of coronavirus diagnosed on the Imabari Queen, which is currently anchored off Weipa, after three further cases were confirmed in Queensland's overseas acquired COVID-19 tally on Tuesday.
"Five crew members tested positive to COVID-19 last week with one crew member airlifted to Sunshine Coast COVID-19 hospital after their condition deteriorated," says acting MSQ general manager Andrew Mahon.
"Subsequently, three more crew have tested positive bringing the total number of cases to eight."
Mr Mahon says MSQ, along with Queensland Health, is continuing to test and treat the crew on board the vessel.
"The remaining seven COVID-positive crew are asymptomatic and will remain isolated on board."
"The health of all the crew members and protection of the Queensland community remains of the utmost importance."
