International sports team quarantines at Sunshine Coast camp
An international sporting team is currently in quarantine on the Sunshine Coast, but Queensland Health hasn't revealed which team it is.
An unknown number of players are in an isolation bubble at the government-owned, Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre at Currimundi, so training can continue while they complete their mandatory quarantine period.
Queensland Health didn't respond to questions regarding where the team is from, and what sport they're training for, but a Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health spokesperson says a plan is in place to safeguard the health and safety of the community.
"The Sunshine Coast Recreation Centre is a large facility and all measures under Chief Health Officer directions and COVIDsafe guidelines are being addressed," the spokesperson says.
"The team will be isolated and any facilities they use will not be accessible by others."
The spokesperson says a comprehensive Quarantine Management Plan has been reviewed and given the nod by the Chief Health Officer.
"Approval was granted on the basis that the plan was adhered to, and that processes to minimise the risk were implemented, including but not limited to, COVID-19 surveillance testing and extensive infection control measures.
They say all on-site workers, including QPS officers, have to adhere to the same COVID-19 testing protocol as quarantine facility workers, as well as a number of other requirements.
