Tickets go live: Women's Origin returns to Sunny Coast
The women’s Queensland Origin team will have the chance to defend their title on Sunshine Coast soil with confirmation the game is returning to the region.
The National Rugby League announced this morning that Sunshine Coast Stadium will host the game on June 25.
NRL CEO Andrew Abdo says the Coast deserves to host the competition following its success last year, when Queensland claimed a 24-18 win over New South Wales at the stadium.
“Women’s Origin is one of the highlights of our calendar and we’re excited to see it return to the Sunshine Coast,” Mr Abdo says.
“Last year’s game was an incredible success, albeit with COVID restrictions. We’re looking forward to giving the Sunshine Coast community the opportunity to fill Sunshine Coast Stadium this year.”
Mr Abdo says Women’s Origin is continuing to grow.
In an historic first, both teams will feature female coaches; Tahnee Norris for Queensland and Kylie Hilder for New South Wales.
Coast councillor Peter Cox says it is a real coup for the coast holding the event at the stadium for the second time in two years.
“The Sunshine Coast was thrilled to host the first Women’s State of Origin match played in Queensland last year and after the Maroons’ thrilling win in that match we’re confident of another sell-out crowd,” Cr Cox says.
He expects hosting the game will bring huge economic benefits for tourism and accommodation providers, the airport, and local shops and cafes.
Tickets are on sale today via nrl.com/tickets. Tickets cost $5 for juniors, $15 for adults and $35 for families (a one-off handling fee of $2.50 applies on all transactions)
