Hundreds sign petition to make Tin Can Bay Rd safer
A Rainbow Beach local has launched a petition, calling for a the state government to make the drive between Gympie and towns along the Cooloola Coast, a safer one.
Anthony Stewart claims Tin Can Bay Road is the second most dangerous road in the Wide Bay, behind the Bruce Highway.
He's calling for major safety upgrades along the stretch from Gympie to Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach "to provide a proper and safe passage for residents and tourists as a matter of urgency".
"There have been 14 deaths between 2011 and 2018 and 312 crashes between 2001 and 2019, equating to one crash every three weeks," the petition reads.
Local PM Tony Perrett is sponsoring the petition, which more than 500 people have signed so far.
