Petition takes off after latest beach rollover
Thousands of people are backing a suggestion to ban P-platers from driving on the sand at 4WD beaches in Queensland.
A petition set up five months ago is gaining traction this week, following a rollover at Teewah Beach, north of Noosa on the weekend.
The incident on Saturday night landed two teenage boys in hospital, one with serious head injuries.
A petition on Change.org, started by Simon McDonald, suggets restricting beach driving to experience drivers on their Open License only, banning Provisional Licence Holders from hitting the sand.
As of Tuesday morning, it has garnered more than 2,500 signatures.
"Teewah Beach, Ocean Beach, Moreton Island, Stradbroke Island and Fraser Island are all desirable locations.
"Unfortunately, there are a certain group of people who will ruin this for us and future generations," the petition reads.
"I am proposing that ALL Provisional Licence Holders be banned from driving on the beach.
"Their lack of driving experience, mentality and respect for the law are the reasons why we will all be banned."
