Local job seekers need more jobs and more support
Labor is warning that regional Australia will be the hardest hit when JobSeeker payments are wound back.
New figures reveal that in the regions, there are 28 people receiving the unemployment payment for every one job that is advertised.
Shadow Families Minister Linda Burney says the welfare payments need to be increased:
"What we know about people on Jobseeker is they spend every cent."
"It's going to be a financial disaster if the Federal Government does not announce a permanent increase to Jobseeker."
The scheme is scheduled to return to its previous base rate after December.
