Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued

UPDATE | That Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for the Sunshine Coast, Noosa and Moreton Bay Council Areas has now been cancelled.  

The heavy rainfall threat has eased for now, but showers continue.

Weather Situation: A coastal trough is causing heavy showers to develop along coastal parts of southeast Qld today

Severe thunderstorms are no longer affecting the Southeast Queensland area (east of Dalby from Rainbow Beach to Stanthorpe). The immediate threat of severe thunderstorms has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.

64mm fell in the 1 hour to 11:30am at Banksia Beach on Bribie Island.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 210. The Bureau and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding is occurring around Tewantin.

Weather Situation: A coastal trough is causing heavy showers to develop along coastal parts of southeast Qld today

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Maroochydore, Caloundra, Noosa Heads, Tewantin, Coolum Beach, the area south of Noosa Heads.

64mm has fallen in 1 hour at Banksia Beach on Bribie Island.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
* Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it.
* Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
* Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
* Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The next warning is due to be issued by 12:50 pm.

Weather Situation: Coastal trough is causing heavy showers to develop along coastal parts of southeast Qld today

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.

Locations which may be affected include Bribie Island, Noosa Heads, Tewantin, Maroochydore, Coolum Beach, Caloundra, the area southwest of Caloundra, waters off Maroochydore and the area south of Noosa Heads.
