Fraser Island Vegetation Fire

UPDATE | The Fraser Island fire is sending smoke into surrounding areas, including Noosa.    

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is aware of a vegetation fire burning on the southern end of Fraser Island. QFES crews will continue to assist the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) to monitor and patrol the area over the coming days. Information about track closures and camping restrictions can found at: https://parks.des.qld.gov.au/park-alerts/.

There is no threat to property at this time, however smoke from this fire will continue to affect residents in surrounding areas including Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro, townships along the Great Sandy Strait, Gympie and Noosa.

Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep their medication close by.

Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

EARLIER | A vegetation fire has broken out on Fraser Island. 

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is aware of a vegetation fire burning near the Hook Point area and access roads on the southern end of Fraser Island.

Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) crews are monitoring and patrolling the area.

There is no threat to property at this time. Smoke is affecting the area, so residents should close windows and doors, and keep respiratory medications close by if required. Motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.
