Noosa Mayor Demands Resignation From Love Sick Councillor

UPDATE | Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington has reacted angrily to the appearance by one of his Councillors on reality TV show The Bachelorette, saying he had no idea Cr Jess Glasgow was going to be on the show.

Well he didn't last long, Cr Glasgow was booted out in only the second episode of the popular show on Thursday night.  Angie telling him she was doing it for the 'sisterhood'.

In a statement released on Friday, Mayor Wellington said "I am calling on Cr Jess Glasgow to resign immediately from his role as Councillor of Noosa".

"With his appearance on the reality TV show The Bachelorette, Councillor Jess Glasgow has revealed behaviour that is totally inappropriate for a Noosa councillor, indeed for any individual.

"The behaviour displayed was misogynistic, crude and highly offensive.

"Whether or not Mr Glasgow was simply performing for the cameras, he showed incredibly poor judgement in allowing himself to be filmed lying, being extremely and consistently disrespectful of women, and outright offensive.

"That he did so whilst referencing Noosa is of great concern to many Noosa residents, Noosa businesses, visitors to Noosa and our Council staff.

"After the first episode, I stated that Cr Glasgow would be referred to the Office of the Independent Assessor as a result of his behaviour bringing the Council and community into disrepute. Compounding this were untruths by Cr Glasgow told to the media suggesting that he had received the Mayor’s approval to appear on the TV program, as well as false statements about supposed accrued leave and pay entitlements.

"Having now viewed last night’s second episode of the program, I have spoken to Cr Glasgow and told him to seriously consider resigning from his position as Councillor on the Noosa Council.

"Whilst I do not have the legal authority to remove a sitting councillor, he has arguably brought the Council into disrepute and undermined the good reputation of our Shire.

"Put simply, there is absolutely no room for vile misogyny and loutish behaviour in Noosa or in Noosa Council" the statement concluded.

EARLIER | Noosa Councillor Jess Glasgow has been spectacularly booted off reality TV show The Bachelorette.

He caused controversy from the start, with fellow contestants remarking that some of the comments he was making were inapprporiate.

At the first Cocktail Party, Angie's brother Brad informed his sister that Jess had said that if Angie gave him a rose he would not accept it.

Later, when she tried to hand him a rose, he paused before dramatically accepting the flower.

Then on Thursday night, during a farmyard photoshoot, Jess was heard making some comments and facial expressions while Angie was sitting on his back while he pretending to play the character of the rear end of a horse.

At one point he was heard remarking that his fingers may start wandering.

At Thursday's Cocktail Party, one of the gents raised concerns about Jess's behaviour with the Bachelorette.

A fired up Angie stormed over to confront a seemingly oblivious Jess.  At the end of that uncomfortable conversation she booted Jess off the show.

During the car ride off the set, Jess told producers he would have to look for love back in some dingy nightclub in Noosa.

On Friday, after his final episode went to air, he was told by one radio show that there was just the one nightclub in Noosa.  Jess admitted that he had said some inappropriate things and was 'very sorry'.

Referencing the farmyard scene, he said he thought Angie wanted everyone to be a bit flirtatious and that is what he thought he was doing.

Jess also indicated during previous radio interviews that he had permission to be on the show but the Noosa Mayor disputes that, Jess admitting on Friday that he may have made a mistake.

Noosa Council has revealed that Cr Jess Glasgow’s appearance on The Bachelorette will be referred to the Office of the Independent Assessor for an alleged breach of the Councillor’s Code of Conduct.

Mayor Tony Wellington said the behavior of Cr Jess Glasgow on The Bachelorette is not reflective of Noosa Council and what the organisation stands for nor is it reflective of the Noosa community’s values.

“Cr Glasgow did not seek approval from myself and I only found out about his involvement after the show had been recorded,” Cr Wellington said Cr Glasgow was not representing Noosa Council on the program, although I am aware that his occupation as a Councillor was frequently referred to on the show.

EARLIER | A Noosa Councillor has been causing quite a stir on the 2019 season of the Bachelorette after the first episode launched on Wednesday night.

Jess Glasgow is one the contestants on the new season of the Bachelorette.

Wearing robes similar to what a Mayor would wear, the 37-year-old told the other suitors that if Bachelorette Angie gave her a rose, he would refuse to take it.

Meantime, Angie's brother Brad was also in the house, he renamed himself Mark and sent much of the cocktail party reporting back to his sister.

He informs his sister that Jess may not be on the show for the right reasons.

When Angie confronted the men, Jess lashed out at another guy in the house, Fireman Jamie Doran.

He accused Jamie, who walked up to Angie earlier dressed in full uniform and armed with a puppy, of dobbing on him.

Jamie was so aghast at being falsely accused that he broke down while opening up to producers.

The tension shifted though when Angie revealed that her brother had been in the house all night, prompting some of the guys to question if Jess was actually her dad.  LOL.

Later during the rose ceremony, Jess raised more than just a few eyebrows when he inserted a dramatic pause for effect before graciously accepting a rose from Angie's outstretched hand.

Strutting over to the right side of the room he bragged to the other fellows about making her wait.

EARLIER | A Noosa Councillor is leaving the chamber in the hope of finding love.

Jess Glasgow is one the contestants on the new season of the Bachelorette.

He said he used the opportunity to spruik the region, but adds that he is a bachelor.

"This show's very positive...and you know, to be brutally honest, I'm entitled to do...if I want to sit on a Mexican beach for my four weeks leave or I want to sit on a reality TV show in Sydney it's my choice and I only had good words to say about Noosa" Mr Glasgow said.

Jess will be hoping he gets a few roses to help him stay in the race to win the heart of 2019's Bachelorette, fellow Sunshine Coast local Angie Kent of Goggle Box fame.

Angie also appeared on 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Outta Here".

Contestant, Jess, said Noosa remained close to his heart during filming.  He said he is pleased he can speak about how beautiful is up in Noosa, and "I'm a single man, I'm a bachelor".
