A homeless man has been murdered as he slept in his sleeping bag on the Sunshine Coast.

David Collin, 53, was found dead with severe head injuries at the back of a community centre at Maroochydore on Monday morning.

Police say preliminary information suggests he was killed in a violent and unprovoked attack.

They want to speak to six people seen on CCTV walking in area on Sunday night and early Monday morning who might be able to shed light on the attack.

A number of people on bicycles were also seen in the area.

Detective Senior Sergeant Daren Edwards said no stone would be left unturned in finding Mr Collin's attacker.

"This appears to have been a very cowardly attack on a vulnerable person and we will continue to pursue all lines of inquiries to find whoever is responsible."
