Rallies to remember Emily Thompson, DV victims

Red Rose Rallies are being held across the region today in honour of 18-year-old Emily Thompson.

The school-girl was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend in Redcliffe last month, with her body found in bushland on the Sunshine Coast.

Rallies are happening in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Toowoomba and Ipswich.

Amie Carrington from the Domestic Violence Action Centre says it’s important we honour the lives of those lost due to domestic violence.

“These are real people,” Ms Carrington says.

“These are daughters, cousins, mothers, grandmothers and aunties.

“We all have a role to play in addressing this national crisis.

“These are actually preventable murders and we need to see the number of women who are being murdered because of intimate partner violence decreasing in Australia.”
