The family of the Sunshine Coast woman who died in a ski lift accident in Japan were by her side when she died in hospital on Sunday.

22 year-old Brooke Day was dragged along the snow and suspended in the air when her avalanche rescue backpack got caught in the ski lift.

In a statement, her family says Brooke had recently completed an avalanche course and had used that training to help rescue four people in the last few weeks.
