Man shot by police: now charged

A 32 year-old man has been charged after being shot by police at Woombye yesterday.

Officers were initially called around 11.40am to reports a white MG hatchback had crashed on the westbound lanes of the Sunshine Motorway in Sippy Downs.

It is alleged the North Arm man then fled in the MG and continued to Nambour Connection Road where he dumped the car and got a lift in a passing Toyota Hilux.

Police located the Hilux on Woombye-Palmwoods Road in Woombye a short time later.

It’s alleged the man got out of the vehicle and approached officers with a gun and was subsequently shot by police.

They provided medical assistance to the man before he was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition.

He has been charged with multiple offences, including five counts of serious assault police while armed, two counts each of unlawful possession of a weapon (revolver), going armed so as to cause fear, common assault and possess dangerous drug (methylamphetamine), and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and authority required to possess explosives (ammunition).

He is due to appear before Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.

The matter is being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
