A Mooloolaba family has paid $4,000 for plane tickets to fly to Melbourne for tonight’s Taylor Swift concert after Jetstar cancelled their original flight this morning.

Will Nicholl said Jetstar sent a text message at 2am today cancelling the 8am flight from Maroochydore and didn’t offer an alternative way to get to Melbourne.

Mr Nicholl said his three teenage daughters were in tears after finding out they couldn’t fly to Melbourne to see their idol’s Eras Tour concert.

“So we’ve got tickets for Taylor Swift tonight which weren’t cheap and very excited, I’ve got a 12, 14 and 16 year-old girls who have spent two weeks making bracelets and costumes and we’ve got a full size picture of Tayla Swift up on the wall and because Jetstar cancelled the flight we’re not going,” Mr Taylor said.

“Daughters in tears. The eldest one is trying to sue everybody but she doesn’t know how to and the littlest one is just laying cuddling the dog crying.”

He said he was inundated by messages from other local parents this morning who had also been left stranded.

He said the cancelled flight had been full of Swifties.

In a last minute rush this morning the family eventually found a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Melbourne via Sydney and paid the exorbitant cost.

Mr Nicholl said he was left with no alternative as he hadn’t received any information from Jetstar about other flight options.

He said they will get a taxi from Tullamarine Airport and head straight to the MCG for tonight’s opening concert.

Later in the morning when we spoke to Jetstar they were organising flights from Brisbane at no extra cost to passengers.

They were offering to take them to Brisbane to catch the flights.

Jetstar has since organised a flight from Maroochydore to Melbourne at 11.55am today.
