Gympie dog attacks on the rise; prompts Council crackdown

The Gympie Council is cracking down on dog owners who don’t keep their animals under control.

There have been 16 dog attacks in Gympie in the last month with some people hospitalised.

There are usually 50 attacks in a year.

The Mayor Glen Hartwig says it’s time to get tough on people who don’t control their dogs in their yards or by walking them off-leash..

He said council officers won’t issue warnings to owners of dogs behaving badly, they will be slapped with a fine.

That could cost them more than $3,000.
