The cost and inconvenience of the Bruce Highway being cut at Gympie during floods will soon be a thing of the past.
Work on the $1-billion Gympie bypass will see 26km of the Bruce Highway duplicated around Gympie.
The Transport Minister Mark Bailey visited the site this week as a 102 tonne girder was installed at the new bridge over Six Mile Creek.

Mr Bailey says the upgrades include 42 new bridges at 23 different locations and they’re elevated and flood resilient.
He said the new section of highway is set to be completed late next year and it’ll also mean trucks and motorists can avoid 53 intersections in the city.
The Minister believes people will still stop off in Gympie for a coffee and rest.
