The Mary River is expected to peak in Gympie today, well below what it takes to flood the CBD.
Mayor Glen Hartwig said the river is expected to around 12.3 metres….it needs to reach 16.5 metres before water enters the CBD.
Kidd Bridge which links the Southside to Gympie is still underwater but is expected to reopen by tomorrow with motorists warned there are delays using the Normanby Bridge.
Numerous roads are still closed across the Gympie region.
Meanwhile in Noosa, council crews are out and about this morning inspecting flooded roads and bridges as floodwater recedes.
Noosa Council’s Director of Infrastructure, Shaun Walsh, said he isn’t expecting too much damage.
“Probably the main problem is grading on gravel roads, ruts on our gravel roads and potholes on our sealed roads,” Mr Walsh said.
