Dolphins player Trai Fuller will make a return to the field from a long rehabilitation this weekend in an unfamiliar jersey.
Fuller suffered a knee injury playing for the Redcliffe Dolphins in the Hostplus Cup finals last year and underwent a full surgical reconstruction.
He has now been cleared to return to the field, but with Redcliffe on a bye this weekend, he will play for the Dolphins’ fellow NRL affiliate club the Central Capras.
Fuller has some links to Central Queensland.
He is originally from Eidsvold and played some football in the Rockhampton area before coming to Brisbane.
With Fuller seen as an important player to the Dolphins’ NRL squad, getting him on the field as soon as possible meant the Capras were his only chance to play this weekend.
Under Queensland Rugby League rules, players can move from one feeder club to another, with Fuller likely to be back in a Redcliffe Dolphins jersey later in the year.
“The reality is we need to give Trai some time on the field so he can complete his rehab and this weekend has been marked for his return to the game,” said Dolphins’ Head Coach Kristian Woolf.
“Ultimately this was the best option to give Trai the quickest and safest return to the field,” Woolf said.
The Capras will meet the Wynnum Manly Seagulls on Stradbroke Island on Saturday.
