Around 3,000 people turned out to watch the England soccer team train at Sunshine Coast Stadium as the Lionesses prepare for the women’s World Cup.
The team arrived from the UK on Friday and invited the public to its first training session on Australian soil yesterday.
The Lionesses were greeted with applause as they arrived at the stadium in Kawana and throughout the nearly three hour session.
It included a Welcome to Country and introduction by the Sunshine Coast Mayor Mark Jamieson and British High Commissioner to Australia Vicki Treadell.
The spectators included a mix of English ex-pats who’d travelled from around Australia to show their support as well as locals wanting to see a high profile sporting team close up.
The players stayed back after training to sign autographs and pose for photos with the crowd.
England play Haiti in Brisbane on July 22 and they could come up against Australia in a Round of 16 game in either Sydney or Brisbane on August 7 depending on results.
