Fiji Day on the Coast 2026
Join us for the inaugural Fiji Day on the Coast 2026, celebrating 56 years of Fiji’s independence. Fiji Day commemorates 10 October 1970, when Fiji became an independent nation. It is a day of cultural pride, identity, community and connection, and this special inaugural event brings that spirit to the Sunshine Coast. Everyone is welcome, including the wider Sunshine Coast community, the broader Pacific Islands community, members of the Fijian diaspora including iTaukei and Indo-Fijian communities, PALM workers and their families, and anyone who would like to experience and celebrate Fijian culture. The day will include market stalls, food vendors, live entertainment, community connection and cultural celebration. At the heart of the day is the Official Opening Ceremony at 11:00am. This special seated ceremony will officially launch the day with cultural significance and community spirit, including ceremonial moments, national anthems, and addresses from invited dignitaries and community representatives. The Official Opening Ceremony is free but ticketed, with free seating registrations to be made available via Humanitix. Seating is limited, so early bookings are encouraged. Market stalls and food vendors will operate from 10:00am to 4:00pm. From midday, the celebration continues with live entertainment in the auditorium, featuring Pacific island-inspired music, contemporary island rhythms, uplifting performances and community atmosphere. The event is family-friendly, and casual or cultural attire is welcome. The venue is wheelchair accessible and has ample on-site parking. In the event of wet weather, market stalls will be relocated to the indoor corridor, while food vendors will remain outside.
