It is happening again. Daylight Saving kicks off this Sunday, 4 October. While the extra evening sunshine is wonderful, the clock change brings our favourite national pastime: trying to figure out what time it is in another state.
Australia is about to be split in two. If you are in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, or the ACT, your clocks are jumping forward an hour. Say goodbye to 60 minutes of sleep.
If you are in Queensland, Western Australia, or the Northern Territory, you do absolutely nothing. Your clocks stay exactly the same. But do not get too comfortable, because your work week is about to get complicated.

The Monday Meeting Nightmare There is always the chaos of interstate meetings. You confidently join a 9:00 am video call in Sydney or Melbourne, coffee in hand.
But if you are dealing with a national team, that same 9:00 am meeting is now 8:30 am in Adelaide, 8:00 am in Brisbane, and a painful 6:00 am in Perth. Scheduling a simple morning catch-up suddenly requires advanced mathematics.
Someone Will Be Late Expect the usual Monday morning confusion. There will be the person who forgets to change their alarm, the person who manually shifts their wall clock the wrong way, and the person who simply hopes their phone knows what it is doing.

The good news is your smartphone will sort out most of the time-traveling for you. Just double-check your Monday schedule, remember not every state is changing its clocks, and if you log in at the wrong time? Just blame Daylight Saving.
