Man charged over alleged crime spree

Police have charged a Maryborough man with a further 21 offences after an incident earlier this week that started at Peregian Springs and ended at Tewantin.

It’s alleged the man, who was suspected of stealing keys from a business on Eumundi Noosa Road on Saturday, was spotted driving a black Holden Commodore on the Sunshine Motorway on Monday and subsequently tracked by police.

The vehicle was found crashed and abandoned at Tewantin the following day, before the man was located nearby and arrested.

A search of the Holden Commodore uncovered items allegedly stolen from a property near Maryborough on January 13.

During a police search of a home in Maryborough on Tuesday a maroon Hyundai Santa Fe was seized.

It was allegedly used in the break and enter and a number of other offences in recent weeks, including a fuel drive off.

The 24-year-old Maryborough man has since been charged with five counts of fraud, and two counts each of evading police, enter premise with intent, stealing, wilful damage and mail theft.

He was also charged with one count each of unlawful possession of stolen property, stealing a vehicle, possessing counterfeit money, vehicle number plate offence, driving whilst disqualified, and breach of bail.

He has been remanded in custody and is next due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on February 16.
